Iris Berben (*1950) is an actress and voiceover artist who began acting in short films as a teenager, and went on to have a long career with leading roles in numerous films and TV series. As a voiceover artist, she has lent her German voice to such actresses as Diane Keaton, Julia Roberts, and Whoopi Goldberg, as well as several audiobook productions. Berben is publicly active as an advocate combating right-wing extremism and antisemitism, as well as for a culture of remembrance in schools. She serves as a jury member for the International Nuremberg Human Rights Award. For her artistic and social contributions, Berben has received over 40 awards, including the Martin Buber Plaque, the Leo Baeck Prize, the Honorary Award of the Max Ophüls Film Festival, the Erich Kästner Prize, the Grimme Prize, the European Culture Prize “Pro Humanitate,” the Prize for Understanding and Tolerance from the Jewish Museum Berlin, and the First Class Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
