Michael Maertens (* 1963) is a German actor. After training at the Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich, he went on to perform on numerous German stages, including the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, the Schillertheater and Deutsches Theater in Berlin, the Münchner Kammerspiele, the Berliner Ensemble, the Schauspielhaus Bochum and the Schauspielhaus Zürich. He has been a member of the ensemble at the Burgtheater Vienna since 2009. Maertens is known to a wider audience for his roles in film and television productions. He has also appeared in several radio plays and audio books. Michael Maertens has received numerous awards for his artistic work, including the Gertrud Eysoldt Ring, the German Actors’ Prize and the Nestroy Theater Prize for Best Actor. In 2007, he was awarded the professional title of “Kammerschauspieler” by the Austrian Federal President.
