Dirk Stermann (* 1965) is an Austrian television host, cabaret artist, actor and writer who pivoted from university studies of theater and history to pursue a career in Austrian broadcasting. Stermann has adapted his style to present in various TV formats, including some with a satirical focus. He is the author of novels, children’s books and cookbooks as well as volumes of poetry and short stories, and the recording of numerous film and audio book productions. In 2024, Stermann was awarded the Salzburger Stier, a major cabaret prize in the German-speaking world, for his achievement as a cabaret artist. His weekly conversations with the celebrity psychoanalyst Erika Freeman, “Mir geht’s gut, wenn nicht heute, dann morgen” (I’m Doing Well, if Not Today Then Tomorrow), was published in 2023. It revolves around the musings of Freeman, who – as a girl of twelve in 1939 – escaped Vienna, to be raised in an orphanage in New York, and who – in her 90’s – moved back to Vienna to live in splendor in the Imperial Hotel, one of Hitler’s favorite accommodations.
