From May 1943, on the request of the German occupiers, all 1,200,000 Dutch radio sets had to be surrendered. Sales and trade were already prohibited on December 15, 1941. This was done to prevent the very popular “Radio Oranje” from London being listened to. The Germans confiscated 840,000 radio receivers, while the remaining ones were hidden by the Dutch.
