Alexander Klar (* 1968) is a German art historian and museum director. After studying art history, history and Christian archaeology Klar completed his doctorate at the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen. Thereafter he was engaged at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and the Kunsthalle Emden, eventually becoming exhibition curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In 2008, Klar was engaged as the founding director of the Emil Schumacher Museum in Hagen, and in 2010, he oversaw management of the Museum Wiesbaden. Since 2019 Klar has been Director of the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
