Burhan Qurbani

Burhan Qurbani (* 1980) is a German film director and screenwriter. He was born in Germany, the son of Afghan refugees; his parents had emigrated to Germany in 1979 as political refugees. Qurbani began his professional career in publishing and later worked as an assistant director at the Staatstheater Stuttgart. He then studied at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg; Burhan Qurbani’s first short film was created in collaboration with the University of Film and Television Potsdam. Since then, he has held positions of responsibility on several film productions. Qurbani also directs stage plays, including productions at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. For his artistic work as a director and writer, he has received several awards, including the Short Film Award at Filmfest Dresden, the Film Art Award at the Festival of German Film, the Grimme Award, the German Film Peace Prize – The Bridge, and the Bavarian Film Award.
