Carel Struycken (*1948) is a Dutch actor. He studied at the Nederlandse Film Academie and then completed a one-year internship at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. He then worked closely with director and screenwriter Rene Daalder. The 2.13 meter (seven feet) tall Struycken made his film debut in “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” (1977). This was followed by numerous roles – including in “Star Trek”, “Twin Peaks” and “Addams Family” – which made him internationally famous. His appointment to record the Bloch poem was postponed by nine months, as Carel’s house in Altadena and all his possessions – including a recording device – were completely destroyed by the severe fires at the westcoast of the USA in January 2025.
