Job Chajes (* 1972) is a Dutch musician, composer, and bandleader. A graduate of the Codarts Jazz Conservatory in Rotterdam, he is the founder, singer, and instrumentalist of the Amsterdam Klezmer Band; he plays his saxophone in the style of a clarinet. In addition to his more than thirty-year commitment to traditional Jewish music, Chajes also performs in the genres of jazz and Brazilian choro. As a composer, he writes pieces for his Job Chajes Sextet and for film productions. Chajes explored his own Jewish family history in the contemporary work “Oma Jannie,” inspired by a letter from his grandmother Jansje Frederikstadt to her sister.
