Maria Schrader (* 1965) is a German actress, director and screenwriter. She studied at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna and began her professional stage career as a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Hannover. From there she went on to perform in Vienna, Venice and Bonn and joined the ensemble of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. She became known to a wider audience through various TV, film and audio book productions. In addition, Schrader has written screenplays and worked as a film director since 2005, receiving numerous awards for her artistic work in front of and behind the camera. These include the Max Ophüls Prize, the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, the German Audiobook Prize, the European Film Prize, the Emmy Primetime Award (for the mini-series “Unorthodox”) and the German Federal Film Prize several times.
