Katharina Thalbach (* 1954) is a German actress, director, audiobook, radio play and dubbing actress. She comes from a theater family and made her film debut at the age of four. She received her acting training from Helene Weigel, Bertold Brecht’s widow, and Doris Thalmer, among others. Thalbach performed at renowned theaters in the GDR and (after moving to West Germany in 1976) in West Germany. She was also cast in leading roles in numerous cinema and TV films. Since the end of the 1980s, Thalbach has also emerged as a theater director. Over the course of her career, she has been involved in over one hundred audio book productions. Katharina Thalbach has received many national and international awards for her artistic work, including the Locarno International Film Festival Actor Award, the German Film Award, the Adolf Grimme Award, the Ernst Lubitsch Award, the Bavarian Film Award, the German Audiobook Award, the German Comedy Award and the German Actor Award (Lifetime Achievement Award).
