August Zirner (*1956) is an American-Austrian actor. He was born in Illinois because Zirner’s Jewish parents had emigrated to the United States after the “Anschluss” of Austria into Nazi Germany. Since 1973, he has lived in Europe. In Vienna, Zirner completed his acting training at the Max Reinhardt Seminar. After his debut at the Volkstheater Wien, he performed at theaters in Hanover, Wiesbaden, and the Münchner Kammerspiele. August Zirner reached a wider audience through roles in numerous film, television, and audiobook productions. For his artistic work, he received the Grimme Prize as a member of the ensemble of the film Wut; he also received a Special Recognition from the German Academy of the Performing Arts. Zirner was also part of the cast of the feature film The Counterfeiters, which won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In addition to his work as an actor, he performs as a jazz flutist, and he has also published a non-fiction book together with his daughter Ana.
