Gerard Sanders (* 1941) was hidden from the Nazis from August 1942 to May 1945. The foster parents who risked their lives to care him, a Jewish child, were honored by the international Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem for their bravery. Gerard Sanders went on to study biochemistry at Leiden University, where he met his wife Marianne. He later worked as a clinical chemist at the University Hospital of Amsterdam and as a professor of Clinical Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam.
