A Fruit Fairy Tale

In the Bible and fairy tale books,
Fruit plays a major role,
When I investigate the past,
Then it often was no fun.

To proceed chronologically
in this bit of song,
First, there was the little apple
Of Eve and the serpent.

From this famous little apple,
Adam had no fun
He lost paradise,
And that was not entertaining.

Then there was another case,
When Eris threw angrily
A golden apple into the hall,
On which it is written:

„This is a gift to the fairest.“
And thus, a battle arose,
Every goddess claimed it
For herself in vanity.

And because of the little apple,
A war raged,
For ten years they besieged Troy,
It cost a lot of blood.

One also reads of the poisoned fruit,
Of which Snow White ate,
Yes, in the good old days,
A lot happened too.

Beyond the good old times,
How much progress have we made,
What a triumph of technology,
We are without fruit.

If you have a question today,
It often becomes difficult,
One would like to peel an apple,
But where does one get it from?

Joyless and fruitless is the time,
in German and Dutch,
The Kraut takes away fruit and joy,
And now we are left without.

It feels like a fairy tale,
One hears tinkling sounds,
One sees a charming little carriage,
And wonders what it means.

The draft horse is a magical pony,
It stops at our door,
We get scared, what could it be,
Perhaps a detective?

But no, we quickly feel relieved,
It turns out splendidly.
Today, it‘s a wizard
Together with a good fairy.

The wizard remains in the driver‘s seat,
The good fairy gets out,
And gives us, a fairy tale of our time,
A box of fruit.

And many apples, many pears
She presents to us,
To such aroma, such taste,
We were no longer accustomed.

It seems like a fairy tale, and not true
And yet, it was reality,
Our thanks to the fairy and wizard,
We were really happy!
