Arthur Umbgrove (* 1964) is a Dutch author and comedian whose interest in cabaret developed at university while studying Dutch language and literature. He won the jury prize at the Groningen Student Cabaret Festival in 1988 and from there went on to join the group Comedytrain. In his cabaret shows, Umbgrove combines songs with stand-up. He has also written six novels and recently the critical piece “De wederafbouw van de satire” (The Rehabilitation of Satire). He has released Dutch recordings and was a columnist at NPO Radio 1 for many years. He is also the artistic director of Speld Live, which offers creative workshops and stage events.
