The Reich Marshal

(see cover montage)

Göring, the military man.
Right after the Führer, Göring is the most powerful man in Germany. He is a true military man, who takes pride in having ancestors as well. When talking about paints, he takes people to his painting gallery in his country house in Karinhall, to show them portraits of his forebears: a confidant of Frederick the Great, the portrait of his father, who was the governor of German South-West Africa. One day he said to me: What would it still mean if Hitler and I were to disappear one day? We have secured our place in world history. Better dead than defeated! – 11-9-39

What is the highest rank in our Wehrmacht?
Reichsmarschall of the Greater German Reich. This rank, created by the Führer on July 19, 1940, and first bestowed upon Hermann Göring, follows the title Reichsfeldmarschall, which the Regensburg Imperial Assembly awarded to Prince Eugene in 1707.

Lady Emmy enthrones at Karinhall,
Is proud of her husband,
Any other field marshal
Is overshadowed by Göring.

From Mackensen and Hindenburg,
Even the old Blücher
Lose their brilliance through this,
That’s almost for sure.

Once, he was only a former captain
From the Richthofen Squadron,
And now, behind Adolf, the premier
In the Nazi leadership cadre.

Since thirty-three he has risen
From captain to higher ranks,
To the highest rank in the German army,
A rank that no one else

Since the days of Prince Eugen
Has worn in Germany,
The title Reich Marshal sounds beautiful,
And Göring was knighted

By Adolf Hitler, his master,
Thus becoming a noble knight,
He wears many orders and decorations,
And wears much glitter.

He has a soft spot for
Fine uniforms,
And is also insatiable
For new badges of honor.

He loves pomp and loves grandeur
Just like Roman emperors,
And lust granted him his power,
We have learned that.

The Reichs Marschal absolutely bears
Many Nero-like attitudes,
Vain and cruel to the core,
We know it well.

Nero once set Rome on fire
And took great pleasure in it,
And Hermann, related to Nero,
Reached for the Reichstag building.

Anyone who is not blind to Nazism
Agrees with me,
Both Nero and Göring are
Signs of decay.

Degeneration, madness, cruelty
Of a dying period,
They are the hallmark of their time,
Caesar’s delusion is in fashion.

The arrogance of emperors before their fall
Into death and ruin,
Yes, just wait, Reichs Marschal,
You’ll have to die soon.
