The Carriers of Culture

We fight for a future founded on the greatness of our ancestors. We, not the swing and jazz-dancing English and Americans, are the descendants of men like Wolfram von Eschenbach, Master Ekkehard, the Naumburg Master, Veit Stoß, Grünewald, Holbein, Dürer, Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Bruckner, Copernicus, Kepler, Leibniz, Hegel, Kant, and many more, to name only those spirits unquestionably acknowledged by history as having bestowed upon humanity in general and upon the European Occident in particular the highest cultural values, thus determining its cultural visage. Therefore, when we say Germany, we also mean Europe. To allow our spirit to continue to exert its creative power in the future of the German people is the freedom for which we fight and will always fight. – Seyss-Inquart – Deutsch Ztg. I.B.N. 30-12-44

You mouth the word “culture”
And enthuse about German art and nature
And praise yourselves while in fact
You have no clue about these things.

You boast so willingly and call yourselves
Heirs of Occident culture,
But what was culture, you let die
Through your reign of terror.

You boast of Holbein, Albrecht Dürer,
You boast of Matthias Grünewald,
Above all, you boast of your Führer’s
lofty and heroic stature.

You boast of your great minds,
Leibniz, Kepler, Hegel, Kant,
But Joseph Goebbels is the master,
The German soul has wholly

Devoted itself to the devils of this time
And broke with the past,
The good geniuses have been expelled,
In their place, cruelty reigns.

A blind madness and belief reigns,
Crime became the state’s ideal,
A murderer masqueraded as a dove of peace
And acted innocent and loyal.

And let you invade countries,
which trusted his false words,
And you all were delighted in such things
And praised his cunning aloud.

He was the greatest of all the greats,
Much more than Goethe, Bach, Veit Stoß,
But you bumped your heads
And now you have lost everything.

The old cultural treasures
And what you stole,
And today you proclaim yourselves as guardians
Of what you gave to Europe.

You are guided by meanness
And want to be the great sons,
But you have nothing in common
With the geniuses of old times.

You want to proudly claim
That you are compared to the great ones,
And have sunk to the deepest depths
That any people ever reached.

No. You are not the heirs of the great ones,
The great legacy was squandered.
What was culture, you shattered
For the vain Hitler delusion.
